Shale gas holds the world’s largest potential reserves, according to Platts, the global energy analytics company.

“We believe that the market for shale gas for the next 15 years will be between 20-billion and 30-billion [cubic meters] and the gas price globally will be in the range of $4-6 [cents]. We also believe that there will be a shift of supply from hydro to shale as the world moves away from burning coal,” said Harry Kargal, general manager, oil and gas analytics at Platts.

Shale gas is an unconventional resource, while conventional crude oil and gas combined form the world’s second largest energy resource.

Shale gas tends to be easier to find than oil, said Kargal. “[Shale gas] is abundant in most areas,” he explained. “You can almost find a new shale gas field every two or three days. You can find oil sands, or so called conventional oil fields, every day.”

Like oil, shale gas is distributed by pipelines, while oil flows by truck. This also means that shales have a higher level of greenhouse gases than conventional oil.

“We believe that the most likely oil price globally, in 2015, will be around $115/barrel and gas around $5/million Btu,” said Kargal.

Though the outlook for these energy sources, especially as the world’s dependence on fossil fuels increases, could be bright, there are some shortcomings.

“Cost will be the major issue,” said Kargal. “The shale gas and other unconventional supplies will require more investment than conventional supplies. Shale oil technology is in its infancy; the major oil companies are more focused on conventional oil development rather than unconventional.

“Also, shale gas will only make a significant impact when

Vista Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) lets you share an
Internet connection from your Windows Vista PC to other devices with
limited Internet connectivity. It uses the DHCP and DNS servers
installed on your Windows Vista PC to establish a TCP/IP network
connection between the Windows Vista PC and all computers, mobile
devices and other network devices that connect to the Windows Vista PC
through it.

Vista Internet Connection Sharing lets you share one of your Internet connections, such as a DSL
connection, an ISDN connection, a cable modem connection, or a dial-up
connection. Any users that connect to the Windows Vista PC through the
ICS share receive the Internet connection and can use applications,
such as Web browsers, e-mail, and World Wide Web pages, through the
shared Internet connection.

Vista Internet Connection Sharing includes many features that are not available in Windows XP ICS, including:

Easy File Sharing – Vista ICS supports file transfer over a homegroup for large files

Nice review. The one thing that it doesn’t address is how hard it is to share large files that are on the PC running ICS and is actually being used for a task. A good example is a used server that is also being used for a bunch of tasks. This is a common scenario for server use and sharing files with other computers.

If you are going to do this, make sure you use a program to copy/overwrite large files. After a first copy/overwrite, you can still leave the files on the server as they are. They will get copied over when the shared connection re-appears.A defining feature of contemporary chess is the clock.
